The story of this quilt is unconventional.
At least compared to all of the other quilts I have made. Probably because it started with me wanting to make something for myself. Besides my first ever quilt that is terribly crafted, this was the only quilt I ever set out to make for myself. I made it for my living room. I literally had a dream about how it looked and acted on it. Once I got going on it I fell flat (emotionally) and did not feel like it looked good in my living room at all. I stand by that.
It took me forever to finish it. I started it last March, struggled to make time for it as I fell out of love with it and vowed to spend an hour on it on my birthday. That sparked a personal resurrection for me to finish the quilt and I finished it in early June. I finished it and loved the final product but still did not like it for the space I intended it for.
Luckily, my family was doing a hand made Christmas gift exchange and I thought this would be a perfect item to add to the exchange. My sister ended up being the recipient of this quilt and I am so glad it did because she has made great use of it. Her dogs love it, too!

My approach regarding materials to this quilt was unconventional as well.
I made this Sentimental Stars Quilt using a free pattern. I remember not gicing much thought to this. I just wanted to try stars and liked that this pattern was free. I really do like this pattern especially when fantasizing about a scrappy version.
As I mentioned earlier, I literally had a dream about the green linen and purple floral fabrics. I ordered them rather impulsively and just got to work. No significance here.
I bound the quilt with a light blue that matched close enough because I had it on hand. I used a navy blue sheet for the back because it was cheap and available at Target when I was shopping for it. Again, no significance here.
I have a bit of a love hate relationship with this quilt.
I think it is pretty and I am happy with how it turned out. BUT, I realized that I am not in the business of impulsively making quilts. Nor am I in the business of making generic quilts. When I invest the time that it requires to make a quilt, I want it to have a level of thoughtfulness behind it that this one lacks. I really can’t tell you what I was thinking.
I love that it is being loved and used. That is my favorite part of making things. I feel like there is no greater compliment to the maker than having a handmade quilt completely deteriorate from use. That is a well loved item.
Thanks for learning with me.
Love you,
Elaina
